Andrew Tanner’s weekly report on Russo-Ukrainian War calls on Ukraine’s European neighbours to shield Ukraine from ruscia. It’s easy to be wise after the event, but — if NATO had guaranteed a shield for Ukrainian skies on 22 or 23 February 2022 (after M. Putin had declared his intent to subjugate Ukraine), would the escalation of 24 February have occurred?

All the necessary prerequisites are in place. Political will is all that is lacking. / … / But anyone who holds out hope that the America of yesteryear will ever return is clinging to a fantasy. Whichever partisan loon holds the White House, the USA’s time as a world leader is over. That’s probably a good thing. Something better deserves to rise.
