A letter from the publisher —
G’day cobbers!
In the 303rd year of Pyotr Romanov's empire, in the 537th week of Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, and on the 847th day of the Russo-Ukrainian War, Kyiv is in Ukrainian hands.
Two essays by Lawrence Freedman help to sort out the discussion about
(1) whether it’s useful to speak of a new axis of RF, PRC, North Korea and IRI
(2) what’s going on in all the talk about ‘lines in the sand’ or ‘crossing Red Lines’ and in responses which invoke a desire not to escalate.

Two Friends in Prison
Antoine E. Davis
The high walls of Washington State Penitentiary keep prisoners locked away from the public for a specified period of time, but they don’t keep out an evil that has always been a part of public life in the United States. The vast majority of us who are locked up, no matter what our personal views might be, are forced to participate in a segregated system. Phone use, showers, dining tables, and cells are all separated by race. Groups of prisoners enforce these unwritten rules; officials not only accept but facilitate segregation.
Anyone who violates these rules can face sanctions from guards or violence from other prisoners.

Church attendance manual (2): singing
Each Christian tradition has its own special attitudes towards singing. When attending a service, it is vital to understand these attitudes in order to avoid the dreaded liturgical faux pas. Mistakes where singing are concerned can incur grave ecclesiastical penalties. The visitor who sings like a Pentecostal during a Presbyterian service will run the risk of being escorted from the premises and given a referral to a clinical psychologist; while the one who sings like a Presbyterian during a Pentecostal service will be regarded as an infidel and may therefore become a target of Friendship Evangelism; this can lead in turn to ten pin bowling, dating, and then eventually marriage and who knows what else.

The rationale for Just Peace Ukraine is being revised. A new improved version will be unveiled at our earliest convenience. We expect that the new rationale will have headings —
The Russo-Ukrainian War is illegal
The Russo-Ukrainian War is immoral
The Russo-Ukrainian War is inexpedient
If you’d like to send in your own thoughts for any or all of these headings — or other material — feel free. We’ve been thinking about the rationale for so long that we find it hard to criticize our own prose.
In brief —
RF forces must leave Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and any other occupied territories. It must assist prisoners and the deported, whether children or adults, to return home. The Kremlin must use its fossil-fuel and other loot to recompense for damages its forces have caused.

Some interesting or worthy items are marked with some combination of the banner with the strange device [|εξηλσιορ*ψ|] — ψ, the Greek letter ‘psi’, may denote matter especially relevant to the Russo-Ukrainian War and anti-imperialism.
(Mnemonic: ‘psi’ has the form of a trident, which is an ancient symbol for Ukrainian government. The symbol was used in the Greek settlements on the Black Sea (or Psi). Tim Snyder reminds us that Greeks and Jews have the longest recorded settlements in Ukraine, and capital psi Ψ looks like an infant menorah.)
